Alleged hijacker shot dead

A shoot-out broke between the alleged hijacker and the victim who was parked outside a house in Mariannhill Park.

AN unknown man was shot by a victim during an attempted hijacking at Mariannhill Park on Sunday, 11 October.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Cst Phindile Radebe, the victim was inside his vehicle outside a house in Mariannhill Park at about 6pm when he noticed a blue Toyota Corolla pull up alongside him.

“The front passenger window opened, then the car was driven off. The complainant noticed the same Toyota Corolla stop next to him after about 20 minutes and an unknown man got out and approached the complainant’s vehicle.”

Radebe said the man was holding a firearm and he attempted to open the door, which was locked. “The alleged hijacker pointed a gun at the complainant and shots were fired.

“The unknown man was shot and rushed to hospital, where he later died.”

Cases of attempted hijacking and an inquest were opened at Pinetown Police Station for investigation.
