Residents must report stolen number plates

Criminals are frequently changing the number plates of vehicles which they use to commit crime.

RESIDENTS have been warned to be on the look out for a silver Polo that has been linked to various crimes around the Pinetown area.

Pinetown SAPS communication officer, Phindile Radebe, said the police are searching for the car.

“We’re aware that criminals have been using the car in various cases reported to us but we’ve been unable to trace the car as the criminals change number plates each time,” said Radebe.

Motorists are urged to report any stolen or lost number plates to the police before having the plates replaced.

“If a driver has a removable number plate that goes missing, then it’s important for them to report it to us because criminals take those plates and attach them to cars used in cases of car jamming, hijackings and even house robberies, ” added Radebe.
