Cat caught in snare ready for new home

A cat looking for new home after surviving a snare ordeal.

On Saturday, 5 September The Kloof and Highway SPCA inspectorate standby team received a call from a concerned Westville resident to say that that he and his family had seen an injured stray ginger cat in their garden with wire wrapped around its stomach.

He was able to confine the injured cat in a room and Inspector Petros Simamane responded to the call.

The cat was immediately taken to Sherwood after-hours veterinary clinic to be examined by a vet. He was sedated and X-rayed to ensure that the wire, which was in fact a snare, had not caused any major internal damage. The snare was successfully removed and the wound carefully cleaned.

The following Monday morning, the recovering stray ginger male cat was taken to the Kloof and Highway SPCA clinic to recover.

“His wounds have been healing very well and the vets are extremely happy with his progress. No owner has come forward to lay claim to the male ginger cat and he is now up for adoption. Thank you to Dr Kadwa and family for phoning the Kloof and Highway SPCA to report ‘Snatch’, as we have now named him, to us. If it was not for the Kadwa family’s care and compassion, Snatch could have suffered a terrible and painful death,” said Lisa Gadd, PR officer for Kloof SPCA.

Snatch is a handsome, young, ginger, male domestic shorthair that is now looking for a new home after surviving his horrific ordeal. To adopt him or any other animal, contact Kloof and Highway SPCA on 031 764 1212/3.
