THE TOPS at SPAR Bierfest is back: Durbanites, don your lederhosen and get ready for great beer, delicious food and toe-tapping entertainment.

This event, in its fifth festive year, SA’s ultimate ‘brewhaha’ and celebration of all things frosty, frothy and fun will get the German-inspired party started in Durban at Suncoast from Friday, 4 to Sunday, 5 September. Durbanites have the option to book a night session, running from 6pm to 11pm on Friday, or one of two Saturday sessions: 11am to 4pm, or 6pm to 11pm.

TOPS at SPAR Bierfest, in association with Tsogo Sun, Jägermeister, Gearhouse, Dryver, Good Fellas and Jiguja, will be hosted inside a 4 000-seater Bavarian brauhaus festooned with festival décor direct from München, modelled on the much-loved Munich Oktoberfest.

The ever-popular TOPS at SPAR Bierfest will once again serve up it’s unique ‘celebration of the suds’, recreating the revelry, tradition and the tastes of this epic annual celebration. Fetching frauleins in dirndl skirts will greet people with a smile, a live oompah band will blow people’s blues away, and they will raise their stein glasses to the start of another year’s legendary festival of beer while enjoying a great line-up of artists and bands for this year’s Bierfest.

Hosted by The ‘Mayor of Munich’, much-loved local comedian and actor Brendan Murray, this year’s hotly anticipated Bierfest activities include the ‘Tapping of the Keg’, ‘Best-Dressed’ and ‘Mass-Heben’ (stein lifting) – all set to the stonking tunes of SA’s best-loved party band, Me and Mr Brown.

Presenting partner and speciality beer brand, No. 3 Fransen Street, will also be presenting their three small batch brands – a cream ale, a pert Irish red ale and a traditional Krystal Weis – plus long-time favourite, the limited edition Bavarian-styled ale, specially named the Royal Bavaria Oktoberfest Bier.

Backed by the expertise of their master brewers, No. 3 Fransen Street will tempting ale-loving consumers to discover new beer experiences by enjoying a wider variety of beer styles. These master brewers will be on hand to enlighten beer-curious attendees with insider info and anecdotes at the Bierfest’s Braumeister Ecke (Brewmaster’s Corner).

There will be an additional R20 door price. All purchases at Bierfest are made using ‘crowns’. Crowns are available in denominations of R30 and purchased in packs of five (value R150). Crowns are non-refundable.

All packages can be booked through the official TOPS at SPAR Bierfest website, www.bierfest.co.za, or through the event’s Facebook page, SA Bierfest.

The event is not open to visitors under the age of 18.
