AN edutainment performance by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, comedian Carvin H Goldstone, an open stage, a craft market and workshops for Children will be some of the highlight at this years’ Festival in the Hills.

The day-long feast of family entertainment is presented by the Kloof Rotary Club and will be hosted by the Curro HCA in the City Hill Auditorium on Saturday, 29 August from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Director of the event, Judith Hawthorn, said they have an arts festival for primary school children and their families that will be of the highest artistic standard, providing an educational, stimulating and inspiring day of activities that are also highly entertaining, using some of the best arts practitioners in South Africa and based right here in Durban.

“The day offers a full programme of performances, workshops and free activities. We expect over 1 000 children to attend, and while school groups from all across KwaZulu-Natal have been invited to participate, the event is also open to the public with booking through Computicket,” said Hawthorn.

One of the main events of the festival is Big Broadway, Small Stars. Presented in the City Hill Auditorium at 2.30pm, this collaboration brings together star entertainers, Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert, two of South Africa’s funniest people, with a massed choir of primary school children and conducted by Bernard Kruger, Kearsney College’s award-winning conductor. The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra presents its edutainment programme, What Does Music

Mean, narrated by Graeme Wicks – a free performance on the open stage from 12.30pm to 1.15pm.
