Woman dies in M7 taxi accident

13 other commuters sustained serious injuries during the accident.

A WOMAN was killed when a taxi rolled down an embankment on the M7 west-bound at the Hans Detman off-ramp on Friday afternoon.

According to Rescue Care Paramedics operations director, Garrith Jamieson, 13 other commuters sustained serious injuries during the accident.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find chaos: the taxi driver had lost control on the sharp bend and the taxi rolled down the embankment.

“Thirteen patients had sustained serious injuries and more ambulances and advanced life support units were called to assist.

“All the injured were stabilized on scene and transported by various ambulances to various Durban Hospitals. One woman sustained critical injuries and died on the scene,” said Jamieson.

The cause of the accident is not known at this stage.
