Pinetown man’s quick reaction causes robbers to flee

"The resident was in the lounge with his wife when the balaclava-wearing gang burst in, held the couple up at gunpoint and assaulted them, demanding cash and jewellery." - Blue Security operations manager

A PINETOWN resident defended himself and his wife when he took on a gang of armed robbers in his home on Thursday. According to Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, the resident punched one robber and then sounded the alarm, which caused them to flee.

“The robbers entered the home in Maurice Nicholls Road at around 7pm via a locked kitchen security gate, which they had opened with a key. The resident was in the lounge with his wife when the balaclava-wearing gang burst in, held the couple up at gunpoint and assaulted them, demanding cash and jewellery. It was unclear how the robbers had managed to get hold of a key to the property.

“The robbers took the resident to the bedroom where they planned to tie him up, but when the resident was left alone with one of the gang members he managed to punch him and press the panic button next to the bed. The gang then fled on foot and the resident immediately gave chase, but lost them outside in the dark.”

Jackson further stated that an undisclosed sum of cash was reported stolen out of the resident’s wallet. Pinetown SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
