Five men arrested for Pinetown house robbery

Police's quick response led to the discovery of stolen goods and a getaway car.

FIVE men, aged between 23 and 33, were arrested on Sunday night for a Mariannhill Park house robbery.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, it It is alleged that at about 5.55pm, the Shongweni K9 Unit members were patrolling the Mariannhill park area in Pinetown when they were stopped by a victim (46), who reported to them that they had been robbed by five men at gunpoint.

“The victim informed the police that the men fled the scene in a gold Toyota Corolla. The police officers searched for the car in the area and it was spotted driving along Richmond and Esser Road in Mariannhill.

“Pinetown SAPS visible police also responded to the complaint and the car was eventually stopped by police at the corner of Anderson and Josiah Gumede Road in Pinetown.

“Police searched the car and discovered two plasma television sets, four cellphones, a wallet with cash, three gold rings and a .38 special revolver with three rounds of ammunition,” said Manqele.

He added that the items were allegedly stolen on the same day at about 5.45pm.

“The victim was at home with his family in Streicher Place, Marianhill Park when five men entered the house and one of them aimed a gun at them.

The five men will be charged for house robbery and possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition and are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.”
