Men nabbed for Waterfall hijacking

The Pinetown Cluster Trio Task Team arrested four men recently.

FOUR men aged between 18 and 27 were arrested by the Pinetown Cluster Trio Task Team for a Waterfall hijacking.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Cst Phindile Radebe said, it is alleged that the victim (18) was driving his Opel Corsa lite along Niagra drive, Waterfall when he was approached by three men who were in possession of firearms, around 6.45pm, last night.

“It is alleged that the victim was forced to the backseat of the car and was dropped off in the Molweni area. A case of hijacking was opened at the Hillcrest police station and the docket was assigned to the members of the Pinetown Cluster Trio Task Team for further investigation. Information was received that the hijacked car was parked in a certain house in Molweni and police proceeded to the scene.

“Police spotted the car and when the alleged hijackers saw the officers they abandoned it and fled the scene and one of them fired shots at the police. Police returned fire and one of the men was wounded during the shootout,” said Radebe.

Four men were arrested and one managed to escape. The hijacked car was recovered and the wounded man was taken to hospital.

The arrested men will be charged with hijacking and are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.
