Three arrested for Hillcrest house robbery

Hillcrest detectives recovered a firearm that was stolen during a Hillcrest house robbery.

THREE men were arrested in KwaNyuswa Reserve for a house robbery which occurred in Hillcrest on Thursday, 9 July.

One man (27) was arrested on Tuesday night, 14 July and two others were arrested on Wednesday, 15 July after police received information about two men who were in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, said it is alleged that on Thursday, 9 July at about 9.30am, two men entered a house in Hillcrest and threatened the complainant with a knife and robbed him of his jewellery.

“They demanded the safe keys and they took his gun and other items,” said Manqele. A case of house robbery was reported to Hillcrest Police Station for further investigations.

The Hillcrest task team followed the information about the whereabouts of the alleged robbers and arrested one man on Tuesday, 14 July, who was found with the wedding band which had been stolen during the house robbery.

“On Wednesday, 15 July, the Hillcrest detectives went on a raid to find the other men. They arrested two men for possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

“A .38 special firearm, which was stolen during the house robbery, was recovered. The two men were charged,” added Manqele.

Hillcrest Station Commander, Col Bafana Ndlovu, commended the good work done by the Hillcrest detectives.
