Alleged robbers nabbed with a toy gun

Two men are expected to appear in court for robbing a petrol station in Westmead.

A TOY gun was found in possession of two men who were arrested in Westmead for business robbery on Tuesday, 7 July.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, said Pinetown police were doing normal patrols in the Westmead area when they were flagged down by two petrol attendants next to a petrol filling station.

“The petrol attendants pointed at two men who were running towards nearby bushes. Police gave chase arrested the two men, and one was found in the possession of a toy gun.

“It is alleged that at about 3.40pm, the two men entered a petrol station along Alexander Road, Westmead and posed as customers. It is alleged that one of them bought a cigarette and other pulled out a gun and demanded cash from the cashier. A total of around R3 000 was taken by the men before fleeing the scene on foot,” said Manqele.

They were charged with business robbery and are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.
