Woman raped by wanted ex-boyfriend

The man was also wanted for another rape case in Port Edward.

HILLCREST detectives arrested a 32-year-old man in Molweni Reserve for raping his ex-girlfriend on Sunday, 21 June.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, the detectives nabbed the man as he was about to leave his home on Tuesday morning.

“It is alleged that on Sunday, 21 June at about 8.30am, the victim was standing with her friend at a bus stop in Fannin Road, Molweni. While she was waiting for a taxi, she was approached by her ex-boyfriend, who started by accusing her of gossiping about him.

“He started assaulting her and the victim’s friend ran away. The man then dragged the victim to a nearby bush, where he raped her,” said Manqele.

The case of rape was reported at Hillcrest police station for further investigation.

Manqele said the man was also wanted for another rape which took place in Port Edward. He will be charged and is due to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The Hillcrest station commander commended the good work done by the Hillcrest detectives.
