Entrapped taxi driver freed from Pinetown crash wreckage

Three people were injured when a taxi collided with a bakkie in Richmond Road, Pinetown.

FIREMEN and a  rescue officers had to use the jaws of life to free a number of injured people in a Richmond Road, Pinetown taxi and bakkie accident.

The head-on-collision left three people injured. One of them is reported to be in a serious condition.

Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha, said paramedics, the Netcare 911 rescue unit, the fire department and other services arrived at the scene and found the driver of the taxi still trapped in the crumpled wreckage of his vehicle.

“Jaws of life were used to free the injured while medics stabilised them. They were treated on scene and then transported to hospital,” said Botha.

The cause of the accident is not known at this time.
