Grant wins two medals in disabled games

Grant is hoping to take Boccia to all disabled schools, but needs sponsors.

NEW Germany resident, Grant Oosthuysen, won two medals in the Nedbank Disabled Games in Johannesburg recently.

Grant, who is a member of the KZN Boccia (disabled bowls) team, won a silver medal for the individual event and gold for the team event.

The games are the highlight in the sporting year of the disabled, as each sport is represented by top players in the provinces. Teams from as far as Rustenburg, Gauteng, the Free State and the Eastern Cape all came together to battle it out for gold. Representatives from Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Kenya were also present, and will hopefully participate in next year’s event.

Grant said the competition was tough, but in the end KZN came out tops, winning the overall team trophy for the Disabled Games.

He thanked Nedbank for their unfailing support and for making the games possible each year.

Grant is hoping to introduce Boccia to all disabled schools and hopefully this will grow support. However, sponsors for the coaching are needed desperately. If you are able to assist, contact Grant on 072 117 3716 or e-mail grant@bigfootdesigns.co.za.
