Guard suspended after mom’s parking lot attack

Mahomed Bassa said when he requested the footage from centre management, he was told there is no footage available

THE general manager of the Pavilion Shopping Centre has responded to the traumatic attack which occurred in the mall’s parking lot last Monday.

Nisha Kenraj said the centre has offered support and related trauma counselling as they view this incident in a serious light.

In regards to the surveillance camera footage, Mahomed Bassa said when he requested the footage from centre management, he was told there is no footage available.

Kemraj responded and said, “The security system, including all cameras, is fully functional and operational. The CCTV system is currently being upgraded to first generation technology in certain sections to improve coverage.

“The area in question, where the unfortunate incident took place, was not covered by cameras. Hence, the current installation is not malfunctioning as alleged but is in fact being commissioned for active use.

“The security guard has been suspended pending a full investigation into the allegations against him. Safety is of paramount importance, and we will continually upgrade our technology to ensure that we are well-positioned to deal with security breaches of any nature.”
