Missing yachtsmen’s family grateful for support

The families of the three missing yachtsmen remain hopeful as more support is shown through social media.

ALTHOUGH there has been no new news in terms of establishing the safety and whereabouts of missing yachtsmen, Reg Robertson, Anthony Murray and Jaryd Payne, the family is grateful for the support it has received online and from the media.

Murray, who grew up in Cowies Hill and is currently based in Cape Town, is the stepson of the late Dr Walter Savage, a well-known Westville and Pinetown GP who died in 2005.

Murray, Robertson and Payne were delivering a catamaran to Thailand, but family members grew concerned when the boat did not arrive 10 days after its expected date of arrival on 2 February.

It is now a month overdue.

Murray’s sister-in-law, Diane Coetzer, said no satellite organisation has joined the family and friend’s search efforts as yet.

“The amazing response we have had – from the sailing community, friends, family and ordinary people – on the Facebook group has been an ongoing source of support to all the families. We also appreciate the interest of the media,” Coetzer said.
