UPDATE: Animal hoarder case remanded until March

The case against a known animal hoader has been remanded until March.

The case against a Queensburgh couple charged with 18 counts of animal cruelty has been remanded until Friday, 6 March.

The couple appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 6 February. The female accused had appointed a new attorney, who asked for time to review the case. The male accused asked for legal aid to be appointed for him, which will be done on 6 March.

The state advised the court that an up-to-date schedule of costs incurred by the Kloof & Highway SPCA will be presented during the next court appearance.

The Kloof & Highway SPCA confiscated 28 animals from a rented property in Escombe on 5 November, 2014.

Barbara Patrick, Manager of the Kloof & Highway SPCA, said, “Thank you for the support from the community, and we will ensure that justice is done for the animals who suffered in this case. All the animals that have been re-homed are doing well in their new homes, but sadly the pug is still receiving treatment in our clinic and will only be re-homed once our vet is happy with the medical condition of this dog.

“We once again appeal to members of community to report animal cruelty to the SPCA for investigation.”
