Inchanga man arrested for possession of illegal firearm

Police arrested a man for illegal possession of a gun.

On Thursday, 22 January at approximately 9.40pm, a 42-year-old man was arrested by Inchanga visible policing members for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The members were doing patrol duties when they received information of an illegal firearm in the Diphini area in Inchanga. They proceeded to the address and searched the house; the suspect, who was inside, was found in possession of a firearm.

He was immediately placed under arrest and charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm. The firearm will be taken to ballistic experts to determine whether it was used in other crimes around the country.

The suspect appeared in the Camperdown Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 23 January.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the police for the good work of arresting the suspects and seizure of illegal firearm in the province.

“We will continue to raid illegal firearms in the province, and those found in possession will be charged. I also praise the communities for supplying us with information about illegal firearms which are circulating in the hands of the criminals,” she said.
