Toddler drowns in swimming pool

A 4-year-old boy tragically drowned in a swimming pool in Northdene.

AN INQUEST into a drowning has been opened at the Malvern SAPS following the death of a four-year-old boy. According to police reports, the young boy was being taken care of by his grandparents in Northdene when the incident occurred. “We received call shortly after 10am on Sunday, 18 January about a toddler who had been found at the bottom of a swimming pool. The child and his siblings had just finished having breakfast when the grandparents noticed that the little boy was no longer in the breakfast area. They searched for him throughout the entire house and eventually found him in the pool,” said Radhika Marimuthu, corporate communications officer at Malvern SAPS.

Paramedics arrived at the scene to find a family performing CPR on the boy and took over immediately, but after numerous attempts the boy was declared dead at the scene. Exact details surrounding the circumstances and preceding events of the drowning incident are still unclear at this stage, and will remain the subject of an investigation. Parents are urged to take extra care of their children and family members around swimming pools.
