‘Animal hoarder’ charged with 18 counts of animal cruelty

Diane Ritchie/Ingram and John Slabbert to face 18 charges of animal cruelty.

Diane Ritchie/Ingram and John Slabbert appeared at the Pinetown Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 18 November and have been charged with 18 counts of animal cruelty.

The case was remanded until 21 January 2015 for trial. Slabbert and Ritchie were advised by the judge that they need to appear at 8.30am in D court and should they not appear a warrant for their arrest will be issued.

This follows as a result of the Kloof and Highway SPCA having to confiscate 28 animals from their rented property in Escombe on Wednesday, 5 November.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA stated that as neither John Slabbert nor Dianne Ritchie/Ingram phoned or came into the SPCA to claim or ask after their confiscated animals within the required seven days, the animals became the property of the SPCA and are able to be rehomed.
