Man arrested for Pinetown hijacking

Pinetown detectives arrested one of the two men that were involved in a hijacking last year.

PINETOWN detectives arrested a 31-year-old man on Wednesday for a carjacking that took place last year.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Cst Phindile Radebe said it is alleged that on 16 January 2013 at about 8.15am, a 53-year-old victim was arriving at her home in Kruger street, Ashley when she was accosted by two men, one in possession of a firearm.

“It is alleged that they demanded car keys from the victim and fled with her VW Golf.

“The car was later found abandoned at KwaDabeka near Pinetown. Fingerprint experts arrived at the scene and lifted the prints from the car,” she said.

Radebe added the man was arrested at his home in Pinetown by means of fingerprints which were lifted from the hijacked vehicle.

The man was charged for carjacking and appeared at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday and the case was not enrolled.
