Kitten Action and Pavilion team up to help feral cats

Support Kitten Action fundraising drive at the Pavilion Shopping Centre on Sunday 26 October.

SUPPORT the Feral Cat fundraising drive outside Checkers at the Pavilion Shopping Centre on Sunday 26 October from 9am to 5pm.

The Kitten Action team will be selling raffle tickets to shoppers. You can also offer assistance to the organisation by making a donation that will assist in feeding the cats, assist with vet bills and transport costs, or simply make a donation of cat food.

Kitten Action have been in partnership with the Pavilion Shopping Centre since December 2011, when they were called by the Pavilion’s operations manager who requested assistance with cat complaints from various tenants. In February 2012, the Pavilion Shopping Centre began supporting the organisation by paying to sterilise the animals and vaccinate them against rabies.

In an attempt to assist the organisation, a feeding scheme was introduced to make it possible for the Feral Cat Rescue Trust to trap the animals and take them to the Kloof and Highway SPCA, where they are sterilised and vaccinated the following day. The cats are then cared for and returned to their residence afterwards.

There has been much achievement to date, including six colonies that have been established where the cats are fed daily by volunteers. In addition, more than 50 cats have been sterilised and vaccinated as well as 18 young kittens having been rescued and found permanent, loving homes.

The dedicated partners to this project will continue until all the cats have been sterilised and vaccinated, creating a stable, vaccinated cat population that will not increase.
