RELIABLE sources have confirmed that a police officer and suspect were killed and at least two others people were injured in a shootout at the Pinetown SAPS station last night.
According to the report, a man went for a policeman’s firearm while he was being transferred to a holding cell.
The arrested man is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Before the intoxicated man was killed at the scene, he is believed to have shot and wounded one of his friends, who had been arrested for driving under the influence.
A police cell commander was seriously injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital via police escort.
According to the source, the dead policeman’s colleagues were distraught and were consoling each other.
The incident is currently under investigation.
