eThekwini warns of bogus workers

eThekwini Municipality has warned residents of people posing as bogus eThekwini Municipality or Eskom employees.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has received numerous enquiries to validate suppliers and contractors calling on customers on the pretence of being eThekwini or Eskom representatives.

“These suppliers are using the eThekwini name to gain entry into people’s homes claiming that they want to advise them on energy savings, meter installations, readings and to perform other alleged council related work,” said eThekwini Municipality’s head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa.

The municipality said it supports all energy efficiency efforts by businesses and residences, but it does not endorse any particular product or service unless it falls within an initiative undertaken by the city.

“Customers are urged to be vigilant to avoid falling prey to criminals posing as municipal employees. Any representative of the municipality will have an ID tag with a photograph, ID or employee number with the municipal logo,” Mthethwa added.

If residents have any suspicion, they can call to confirm with the municipality’s 24-hour call centre on 080 1313 111.
