Phenomenal woman Carol fights child hunger in Embo Valley

We profile phenomenal woman and founder of the Twinklestar Foundation feeding project, Carol Schroeder, in celebration of Women's Month.

HILLCREST resident, Carol Schroeder has dedicated her life to assist underprivileged families from the Embo Valley.

Carol who is a housewife and the founder of Twinklestar Foundation feeds 65 families every Thursday.

“I started this feeding project in 2005, I used money from my own pocket to buy all the food for the elderly people of the valley.

“We started getting funding in 2011 when the foundation was registered.

Carol receives a lot of support from her husband Chris who wakes up at 3am to cook for the Embo Valley families.

“Every Thursday we bring them bread, soup and samp as most of them look after their grandchildren.

“What touched me the most about them is their spirit to share the small things that they have.

“At their age they should be relaxing but they would do anything to take care of their grandchildren and keep them happy and safe.

The elders who just cry when they describe Carol believes she is an angel sent from above.

Beatrice Wanda (84) who lost six children due to illnesses said the food that they receive from Carol helps them a lot because her grandchildren go to bed on a full stomach.

“I live with seven grandchildren and my only daughter that is left. We depend on my pension money and my daughter works piece jobs.

“I have been part of this feeding project since it first started, Carol has never disappointed us, we are like her second family. “She knows each and everyone of us by name, she know where we live and our hardships. The food is always fresh and she provides us with pain tablets every week.

Wanda added that on other Thursdays they also get some clothes. “I remember this one occasion when she bought us shoes, attire and underwear. She even hires a taxi to transport us to the hall as it is very far for most of us.

“She is truly a blessing and we are very grateful, we wish God could bless her abundantly.” Anyone who would love to assist the Twinklestar Foundation and the Embo families can contact Carol on 083 7777 369 or email twinklestarfoundation@gmail.com.
