Thieves target hounds

There is a possibility that the dogs stolen from the New Germany area have been used in dog fighting.

SEVERAL reports of dogs being stolen have recently surfaced in the Highway area.

According to Danielle Munn, her dog Mustang, an American Pitbull, was stolen on 28 February from the New Germany area. She said her housekeeper was at home during that time and saw two teenage boys force the gate open, lasso the dog and pull him out of the yard. The boys ran down Bosse Street towards Bohmer Road. The housekeeper notified the Munns and they alerted their security company, but the boys were long gone.

”Our dog is six-years-old and has severe skin cancer and requires regular operations to keep him healthy. We think that he might have been taken to be used in dog fighting, but we wont give up our hope to find him,” said Danielle.

Danielle’s husband, Shannon has made several flyers and even offered a reward for Mustang’s safe return, but said he has not heard anything since. If you have any information about the whereabouts of Mustang, please contact Shannon on 083 655 5321.

In another incident, a 10-month-old German Shepherd named Baron was stolen from its home also in New Germany on 10 March. According to Baron’s owners (who did not want to be named), he was stolen from behind a padlocked driveway gate which was forced open. He was seen being dragged along Berkshire Drive in New Germany at 4.30pm and managed to break free from the rope. Unfortunately, he was recaptured and dragged towards Clermont.

Baron’s disappearance was widely reported and the community was outstanding in sharing the news. Baron’s owners printed flyers and handed these out along Berkshire Drive and spoke to people walking on the road the next day in hopes that someone would know where he had been taken. His human dad, along with Derek Phoenix, a member of Pet rescue Pinetown, went into Clermont that evening with more flyers.

Baron’s owner continued his frantic search in Clermont on 12 March, when he met someone who recognised Baron’s picture on the flyer and said he knew where Baron was. Baron was rescued from a house in Clermont later that afternoon.

His owners thanked all who helped in the search, especially Derek from Pet Rescue Pinetown, Nikki, Haley and the neighbourhood watch, those who helped spread the news on social networks and the community of Clermont, who helped locate Baron.
