Report illegal signage

The fine for erecting illegal posters is more than R800 per poster.

THE Highway area has recently experienced an increase in the number of illegal signs being erected .

The illegal signage not only gives the area an unkempt look, but also encourages other illegal signage. According to Rick Crouch, the councillor for ward 10, the signs also gives the impression that the community does not care about the area, which attracts undesirable elements.

“I work diligently in reporting these illegal signs and posters. I take note of them while driving and then report them by sending an email to the signage department.

“The legal signs and posters on the light poles will have a luminous bright coloured sticker at the bottom right of the poster, if it does not have the sticker it is illegal. Some that are much easier to spot are the handwritten ones,” said Crouch.

Crouch also reported that the illegal signs were unfair to the businesses that use legal processes, and encourages residents not to do business with those businesses that are advertising illegally.

He also urged residents to report any illegal posters or signs by emailing the street name and the light pole number to the signage department at Loshnie.Pill ay@durban.gov.za.
