Local designers conquer the J&B Met

Kevin Ellis and Gareth Greaves have won the J&B Mets for the fifth consecutive year.

KEVIN Ellis and Gareth Greaves, well known South African designers from New Germany and Kloof, respectively, have won the best themed couple category at this year’s J&B Met fashion competition, held in Cape Town on Saturday 1 February.

It was the fifth consecutive win for the talented designers. In the past they also won the people’s choice award, most elegant couple and best hat.

They are the only designers who have won every single category at the J&B Met.

The theme for this year’s competition was “Made to Conquer.” “For our designs we drew inspiration from the African lion that conquers the savannah. It wasn’t an easy win, but we did it again,” said Ellis.

Greaves and Ellis hand painted a golden lion onto the back of the bright coloured suit that Ellis wore to the sensational competition. According to Ellis, the lion represented courage.

“We also added studs to the suit for a military feel, to reinforce the idea of bravery and courage,” said Ellis.
