How to manage winter food cravings with these yummy meal ideas

Struggling to stick to your healthy habits in winter? We’ve got you covered.

Winter calls for hearty meals, hot chocolate and toasty treats – the only problem? Summer is coming and you’re going to want to still fit into your bikini…so best you beat the winter food cravings by trying out these healthy, yummy tips for every meal from Herbalife:

Breakfast: Breakfast is known as the most important meal of the day for good reason – it fuels your body after it has been resting, for eight hours hopefully, and gives you the energy you need to start your day. Try: Fruity baked oats with nuts and a scoop of protein powder, or some whole grain toast with avocado, a poached egg and chilli flakes for a yummy, protein-rich and hearty breakfast.

Snacks: Wanting to snack more in winter? That’s perfectly normal, in fact, research has shown that during the colder months, and as people tend to spend more time inside, they often experience a sort of “cabin fever”, which can lead to them snacking out of boredom. Try: Sweet potato chips are a great alternative to a regular packet of crisps if you’re craving some carbs. Feeling fancy? Try making some chocolate almond protein bites or sun-dried tomato and roasted pepper muffins – these snacks are super easy to make and so delicious.

Lunch: Soups are a great lunch option in winter – they are warm, easy to make and are packed with veggies giving you a good dose of vitamins and antioxidants which is great for your immune system. Try: Depending on what you have in the fridge, you can do anything from a mixed vegetable soup, cauliflower soup, or a classic butternut soup. Adding legumes like lentils or chickpeas is a great way to up the protein content. Serve with some wholegrain or rye toast for added fibre, or try this easy Protein Parmesan Skillet Flatbread.

Dinner: Nothing screams comfort food like a good old-fashioned macaroni and cheese bake, spaghetti bolognaise, or a lasagne. Unfortunately, these tasty dishes are often very heavily loaded with carbs and don’t always include much fibre or good fats. But don’t worry! There are ways to enjoy some healthier renditions of your favourite pastas (and they’ll be just as tasty too). Try: Swap out pasta in your lasagne or spaghetti for zoodles (zucchini noodles). These are easy to make yourself, but many supermarkets have ready prepared ones if you’re in a rush. Try using cauliflower instead of macaroni to make a tasty cauliflower and cheese bake.
