Cars in the Park

Hundreds of classic, rare and exotic cars filled up Zwartkops Raceway for the 40th iteration of the Pretoria Old Motor Club – Cars in the Park.

Seeing as though the Autodealer team had the 2019 BMW Z4 SDrive 2.0i on test, we enquired with the BMW Car Club Gauteng if we can join them for the day and they gladly accepted. After I parked the car, you cannot help but feel a bit of pride as you display with such a reputable car club with the Z4 surrounded by some of the cleanest Bavarian examples in SA. Soon after Justin Jacobs arrived, we took to the track to go look at some of the other marques on display. Opposite the AMG Advanced Driving Academy, a range of rare Mercedes-Benz examples glistened in the winter sun, standing out from the crowd was a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 180D Bakkie.

As we continued towards turn 6, we were greeted by multiple Alfa Romeo’s after which we stumbled upon a collection of Lancia’s, the most popular one, finished in Martini Racing livery. After experiencing classics from Germany and Italy, a classic Aston Martin and Pontiac GTO represented the British and Americans. Visitors were also presented with a decent collection of Porsches and quite a few Ford Mustangs, including the highly anticipated 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt edition. The pit area was reserved for some of the oldest cars in attendance while plenty of food and car memorabilia stalls were spread all over.

Local owners of classic Citroën cars were celebrating the marques 100th anniversary while the Mini Club arrived in large numbers to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the brand. Overall it was a fun and informative day, ideal for the whole family and if you missed out on the large gathering, be sure to book your tickets online for Concours South Africa taking place from 30 August to 1 September 2019, at Steyn City.
