Ermelo’s own beauty queen is finalist in Mrs Africa pageant

Ermelo’s Nompumelelo Basson has been chosen as a 2018 Mrs Africa Continental finalist.
She will represent Msukaligwa, Gert Sibande District and Mpumalanga at the prestigious pageant week and gala event from 23 November to 2 December in the North West Province.
Ms Basson worked at Bashele Primary School and Reggie Masuku Secondary School as a part-time clerk.
After completing Grade 12, she worked at the Ermelo Provincial Hospital as a typist and secretary to the medical manager for 10 years.
She is currently working at Eskom as a senior admin officer in the primary energy division.
A beauty queen at heart, she was also a finalist in the Mrs Mpumalanga competition last year and represented the district.
Not just a pretty face, but with brains as well, she is the author of the book Through the eyes of a young Woman which she hopes will be published soon.
A God-fearing woman and dedicated to helping people from all different walks of life, she hosts high school beauty competitions to groom young girls for modelling and visits old-age homes in her township, Wesselton, in her spare time.
It is there that she gets to spend time with the older community, reading to them from the Bible, showering them with gifts and praying with them.
She is currently busy with two projects, aptly named Humble and Blessed Lelo Sanitary Pads and Toiletry Project, during which she collects and donates sanitary towels to disadvantaged girls in her township.
Her other project, Remarkable Souls Project, deals with substance abuse.
Ms Basson entered the Mrs Africa competition because she has a vision of creating a conducive environment that will better the lives of little ones, young and old around her.
A motivated wife, mother, friend and sister, she digs deep to balance all the work she has to do.
“Women are extraordinary beings, in that we have so many things going on but we dig deep and get things done at the end of the day,” Ms Basson said.
Mrs Africa emphasised the splendour of Africa through their brand and magnificent title holders and finalists where their women shine globally.
According to Africa Pageants, organisers of the Mrs Africa event, the finalists form an African sisterhood whose legacies last longer than their year of reign and their positive impact in their communities and on the continent last a lifetime.
The beauty and modelling industry is hard and many have tried and failed, but this beauty is confident she will make Ermelo, Gert Sibande District, Mpumalanga and South Africa proud when she takes part in the Mrs Africa finals.
