1. The longest time between the birth of a set of twins is an astounding 87 days.

2.  Just to set the mood – the oldest condoms ever found date back to the 1640s. These were manufactured from the intestines of fish and animals.

3. Sardinia is home to a particular cheese that contains live maggots.

4. Oops!  The man who boasted was was reportedly the longest beard in the world died in 1567, apparently as a result of tripping over the beard while fleeing from a fire.

5.  A 9th century Norse nobleman was killed by an enemy he had beheaded several hours earlier.  The unfortunate warrior had fastened the severed head to his horse’s saddle and died from an infection after the head’s teeth grazed his leg.

6. The Romans  – long held to be amazingly civilised – used to clean and whiten their teeth with urine.

7. There is a glacier  in Antarctica which regularly appears red as a result of oxidised salt water. It’s commonly  known as ‘Blood Falls’

8. In 2008 scientists discovered a new species of bacteria which lives in hairspray.
