Florence Foster Jenkins – The Movie – at last…

Here is the trailer of the film with Meryl Streep in the title role and Florence's inimitable version of Mozart's Queen of the Night as heard in her head.

Florence Foster Jenkins (19 July 1868 – 26 November 1944) was an opera diva known for her legions of fans, despite her lack of rhythm, pitch and tone.

It remains unclear whether opera-goers showed up for her performances out of adoration for her or for her bizarre entertainment value.

The upcoming film titled Florence Foster Jenkins is a British-American biographical comedy-drama directed by Stephen Frears. It stars Meryl Streep as Jenkins, a New York heiress who became an opera singer notorious for her bad singing. Hugh Grant plays her partner and manager St Clair Bayfield. Bayfield was an aristocratic English actor who was determined to protect her from the truth about her singing which was that the voice she heard in her head and the one audiences heard were two very different things.

This phenomenon is not as strange to anyone who has watched an Idols audition, as it must have been to audiences in Jenkins’ day.
