The best place to have Christmas lunch

The perfect place to have Christmas lunch is with your loved ones whether it is at home, grandma’s or a day spend at the dam.

Amuse bouche – nope not amused at all

Of course I know what Amuse bouche is, thanks to the cooking channel I even now know that a Sous chef is not the Afrikaans name for a person that makes gravy for a living.

With my newfound culinary knowledge, I set out to search for the perfect restaurant to enjoy Christmas lunch.

On my tablet, armed with Google (another skill I’m proud to add to my cv), I type the words  “ best place to have Christmas lunch” and hit the search button.

Voila, a complete list of fine dining from Johannesburg to the Garden route.

I start reading through the list, and not before long my tablet becomes the recipient of verbal abuse, I sound like a graduate fresh out of Gordon Ramsay’s academy.

Note to self, stop watching Hell’s kitchen.

Restaurants with unpronounceable names’ menus includes Amuse bouche, canapés, salads, soup, middle courses, main courses, petit fours, snack platters, paired wine, eggnog and desserts.

Sounds delicious but with price tags ranging from R360.00 to R1150.00 p.p. (serious!!)

What? No children under 12 (the drive thru with the golden hoops is going to have a busy day).

No, not even the complimentary olive oil on the table from a well-known estate in the Cape is going to change my mind.

Christmas is the time of year when families get together and what better way to celebrate by having a big table laid out with food lovingly prepared by mom, granny and all the aunts.

With children running around enjoying themselves and a Christmas cd playing in the background (what is Christmas without Boney-M) and grandpa searching for the fruit salts after over indulging.

There we go, I found it, the perfect place to have Christmas lunch is with your loved ones whether it is at home, grandma’s or a day spend at the dam.

P.S. Another added advantage is that one can visit the refrigerator later that night and it will gladly supply you with another cold slice of gammon and some of aunty Bettie’s famous homemade mustard.

Amuse bouche, NO, one bite is never enough!
