Ermelo JKA karatekas triumph at SA tournament

The Ermelo JKA team, under the guidance of Sensei Madelein Coetzee, demonstrated focus and sportsmanship, earning them 10 medals.

In an impressive display of skill and discipline, 12 karatekas of the Ermelo JKA Karate Dojo made their mark at the prestigious South African JKA National Tournament at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena on May 17 and 18.

Competing against more than 4 000 participants, these dedicated karatekas showcased the spirit of true champions.

The Ermelo JKA team, under the guidance of Sensei Madelein Coetzee, demonstrated focus and sportsmanship, earning them 10 medals.

Seven of Ermelo JKA’s members received SA JKA National colours.

According to Coetzee this honour marks the karatekas’ excellence in the art of karate and their commitment to the values it represents.

The results of Ermelo JKA Karate Dojo:

  • Janchro Nel – Gold in kumite
  • Johan Coetzer – Bronze in team kumite and top eight in individual kumite
  • Divan Botes – Silver in kata and top eight in kumite
  • Sensei Madelein Coetzee – Bronze in team kumite, fifth in individual kumite and ninth in kata
  • Xavier van Wyk – Bronze in kata
  • Pieter Swanepoel – Silver in kata and gold in kumite
  • Christelle van Wyk – Bronze in kata
  • Chris Swanepoel – Silver in kumite
  • Ethan Wepener – Silver in kumite
  • Erich Nel – Top eight in kata and kumite.
