Ermelo’s Catha Jacobs prepares for Women’s Rugby World Cup

"It was the first time I had ever played rugby, but it went really well," she said.

Ermelo’s Catha Jacobs (23) has been playing professional rugby for the Springbok Women’s Sevens and 15s’ teams since 21.

Jacobs is currently on tour with the Springbok Women 15s’ team as they make their way to the United Kingdom for a month of Test matches in preparation for next year’s World Cup.

After high school at Ligbron Academy of Technology she attended North West University to study education.

When she completed her second year she moved over to the University of Johannesburg where she joined the rowing team.

She said Paul Delport, the coach for the Springbok Women’s Sevens, attended sport events to transition athletic women to the Sevens team as there was no professional women’s rugby yet.

“He spotted me and invited me to a camp in Stellenbosch in 2019,” Jacobs said.

She added during her very first camp she experienced her first friendly match against a national team, Brazil.

“It was the first time I had ever played rugby, but it went really well,” she said.
