Five members of the Conquerors Athletic Club participated in the annual Volksrust 42km Marathon on 25 January.
They qualified for the Comrades Marathon that takes place between Pieter Maritzburg and Durban on 14 June.
The athletes crossed the finish line with the following times:
• Petros Ndlangamandla 3:21,28
• Themba Rasta Nkosi 3:35, 24
• Peter Chili 3:46,23
• Mbongiseni Ndlangamandla 3:55,33
• Jonas Thwala 4:18,20
According to Petros Ndlangamandla, the success of the members that qualified for the Comrades is attributed to the unity and humility prevailing in the team.
“Every team member listened to the wisdom shared by other members and we learn new things every time we share.”
The club is now preparing for the annual Pongola Sugar Cane race in April, which is a flat and fast race.
All other upcoming races will be used as build-up races in preparation for the Comrades qualifier in Pongola.
This is done to expedite recovery and avoid over racing.
