Local teams hit slump in the last leg of the SAB Soccer League in the Gert Sibande Stream B

All local teams were playing away matches and all succumbed to the pressure with only Mafia FC registering a point in Davel against the Mpumalanga Eagles

Local teams seem to be hitting a bit of a slump as they were once again at the receiving end of a drubbing in the past weekend’s, 17 March, edition of the SAB Soccer League Gert Sibande Stream B.

All local teams were playing away matches and all succumbed to the pressure, with only Mafia FC registering a point in Davel against the Mpumalanga Eagles. That match ended in a 2-2 draw.

VOC United, the only local team in the top half of the table, were powerless to a Passion FC attack and went down 3-1 in Carolina. The Sun City Gunners had no response to a Shooters FC side, as they also went down 4-0.

In the highlight of the weekend, log leaders, Manzana FC, were finally defeated for the first time this season by defending champions, Somhlolo FC, on Saturday.

That match ended 2-1, however, the “champions in waiting” made up for their loss, by thrashing Ermelo United, 6-1 in Badplaas on Sunday in a catch-up match, to cement their position on the log.

In other matches, the catch-up match between the two Breyten sides on Saturday, yielded goals even though the match was one-sided.

Breyten Homesweepers put eight goals past a beleaguered Breyten United goalkeeper, and United responded with just one goal to end the match 8-1.

High-scoring Breyten Homesweepers concluded what was an awesome week for their team, by defeating Blackstone 4-0 on Sunday. The team from Breyten scored a total of 12 goals in just one weekend.

Second place, Flymingo United, lost 2-1 to Losta Stars, and the Hammers FC added to an embarrassing weekend for Breyten United as they managed a scrappy 1-0 win.

In spite of handing Manzana a first defeat on Saturday, Somhlolo came back to Earth with a bang as they succumbed to a 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Typhoon FC.

The match between PR Barcelona versus X1 Experience is still to be announced.

Manzana FC still tops the leaderboard despite their loss, and Ermelo United look to be on the chopping board at the bottom of the table.

The next round of matches takes place on the weekend of 23 March around various stadiums.
