Ermelo Taxi Association wins inaugural Gert Sibande District Municipal cup

On their way to the final, the Ermelo Taxi Association hammered the Fernie Taxi Association 6-0 before beating Tjakastad Taxi Association 4-3 on penalties in the quarter finals.

The Ermelo Taxi Association (ETA) is the inaugural champions of the Gert Sibande District Taxi Association’s soccer tournament.

The ETA beat the Dundonald Taxi Association 4-3 on penalties after a closely contested final ended 1-1 in regulation time at the AJ Swanepoel Stadium on Sunday, 19 August.

On their way to the final, the ETA hammered the Fernie Taxi Association 6-0, before beating Tjakastad Taxi Association 4-3 on penalties in the quarter finals.

The captain of the Ermelo Taxi Association, Thabani Tshabalala (blue), rides a tackle from an opponent from Carolina Taxi Association at the Gert Sibande District Municipality Cup.

They booked their place in the final with an emphatic 3-0 victory over the Carolina Taxi Association.

Piet Retief, Driefontein, Secunda and Embhuleni taxi associations also took part in the tournament.

The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) sponsored and hosted the tournament with the aim of building good relations between taxi associations in the region.

It was also aimed at catering for the physical and emotional well-being of taxi operators.
