Children of the Dawn skip their way to the top

Ermelo Centre's Thobile Mkhatshwa and Thembelihle Dludlu walked off with gold while Nomvula Mlotshwa won silver.

Children of the Dawn, Ermelo Centre, believe in using sport as a tool for social development and that was evident when three of their own won in the recently held rope-skipping tournament.

Rope-skipping is a new sport proving very popular among the children as shown when they recently had a three day rope-skipping tournament judged by two representatives from the SA Gymnastics Association in Bushbuckridge.

The main objectives of the tournament was to engage, educate, motivate, and create a fun environment for the kids.

The rope-skipping programme consisted of two days’ training in elementary coaching and judging workshops run in all eight of the Children of the Dawn communities by the rope-skipping section of the SA Gymnastics.

The competition on the third day showed great displays of skills and perseverance, with manyparticipants displaying natural talent in rope-skipping.

The Ermelo Centre’s Thobile Mkhatshwa and Thembelihle Dludlu walked off with gold while Nomvula Mlotshwa won silver.
