The Man(ny) of Steel

The tough Black Ops category tests the participants mentally and physically.

Ermelo’s “Man of Steel”, Manny Dos Reis, recently participated in the seventh Jeep Warrior Race of the current season, finishing the gruelling 15 to 18 km Black-Ops Elite course in seventh place overall.

The race took place at the Meerendal Wine Estate near Cape Town over the past weekend.
Manny completed the course with its 30 obstacles in an impressive time of 01:28:45.

He has participated in six of the seven events in this year’s series and will now compete in the eighth and final event, the national finals, which will be held in Pretoria on 22 November.

He is currently also in seventh position in the overall standings and in second place in the 30 to 35 year age group.

The Black Ops is the most challenging category, combining both Rookie and Commando obstacles with the addition of endurance obstacles that involve carrying and dragging heavy objects for set distances.

Black Ops tests the participants mentally and physically and involves jumping over burning fires, crawling through mud under a wire fence, battling up slippery slopes and running or swimming across water obstacles

In this category athletes compete for prize money and the opportunity to drive the Warrior-branded Jeep Wrangler until the next event.

This is a solo race in which no assistance by other participants is allowed and all obstacles have to be completed in order for the participant not to be disqualified.

Prize money is awarded to the top three males and top three females.
