Local runners make a clean sweep

Msukaligwa Marathon Club had a clean sweep with their top four ladies taking all the top positions.

Marathon runners and spectators recently turned up to attend the inaugural Shalom 10 km and 4.9 km fun run at the AJ Swanepoel stadium in Ermelo.

Bennedict Mngomezulu, Philani Mkhwanazi and Wendy Msezane went into the race carrying hopes of local teams in the event supported by Athletics Mpumalanga.

A total of 68 runners participated with 50 participating in the 10 km race and 18 in the 4.9 km race. Philani Mkhwanazi from the Nedbank Athletic Club was the overall winner in the 10 km race finishing in 32:44 followed by Bennedict Mngomezulu of Msukaligwa Marathon Club with the time of 35:09 and Eric Nkosi taking third place with the time of 36:04

In the veterans category, Sipho Ndlovu from the Ermelo Marathon Club took first place with his time of 36:09 and Jan Shongwe was the first Master with 51:12

In the females category Msukaligwa Marathon Club had a clean sweep with their top four ladies taking all the top positions. Wendy Msezana came first in 45:03 followed by her younger sister Hloni Msezana with 46:14 and she was also the the first junior lady. In third place was Smangele Shabangu with the time of 48:20, Busi Shongwe was the first veteran lady with Ameline Weweje taking the Master lady position.

Msukaligwa Marathon Club thanked all its sponsors, Msukaligwa Municipality, Sta Mining and Mpume’s Properties. They also extended their sincere gratitude to their promoters, Highvelder newspaper, VOC FM and Errie Bio Kinetic centre.
