Golf galore at Ermelo Country Club

Some 46 of the province’s top golfers participated in the tournament which was contested in three divisions according to handicap.

There was plenty of golf action at the Ermelo Country Club this past weekend.
On Saturday 42 players participated in a “Two-ball Betterball Scramble Drive” competition which saw W.T. Smith and Tersia Kemp taking first spot on 47 points after a count-out with André Nel and Joof Otto who also finished on 47 points. Joof also managed to hit the longest drive off the eighth tee. J.P. Roux was nearest to the pin on the fourth green and Kobus Wentzel was nearest on the 14th green.
The big game was however the Mpumalanga Tournament of Champions, also known as the “Champ of Champs” which took place on Sunday.

The A-division Gross winner was Isak Marais of the Greenside Golf Club in Emalahleni (Witbank) who carded rounds of 74 and 71 to finish on 145 and win by three shots from Neil Clifford of Ermelo Golf Club who put together two even rounds of 74 to finish the day on 148. Christo Harms of Bankenveld Golf Club shot even rounds of 75 to put him in third place on 150.
Hans de Wet of Ermelo Golf Club was the A- division Nett winner.
In the B-division Gross, Steven Ross of the Bank Golf Club was the winner on 172 strokes (89, 83). Coen Stolz of Kriel Golf Club placed second with even rounds of 87 for a total of 174, with N. Venter of Arnot Golf Club filling the third spot on 176 (83, 93). Venter was also the B-division Nett winner.
The C-division gross winner was Duncan Cullen of Bankenveld Golf Club with rounds of 94 and 99 for a total of 193 for the day. J van Niekerk of Kriel Golf Club was in second place with 197 strokes (98, 99) and F. Kapp of Volksrust Golf Club was placed third on 201 strokes (101,100). J. Kapp was also the C-Division Nett winner.
