Golfers challenged in Ermelo Open

Many of the pre-tournament favourites finished down the field and put their performances down to “a bad day at the office”.

The Ermelo Open Golf Championship was held at the Ermelo Country Club over the past weekend and put the golfers’ skills to the test under trying conditions.

The ever-changing weather with intermittent rain, sunshine and gusting winds provided many golfers with a challenge in selecting correct lines on the fairways as well as on the greens.

Many of the pre-tournament favourites finished down the field and put their performances down to “a bad day at the office”.

Jasper van der Westhuizen emerged as the 2014 Open Champion, with a score of 141 over the 36 holes, with Derick Fick in second place on 142 and Mark Ferreira third on 144.

The nett winner was James Nkonde with a round of 142 and George Hlatswayo in second place on 143 strokes.Niel Duncan won the first round in the morning gross section with a score of 71 strokes over the 18 holes and Stephen Morrison won the second round gross in the afternoon, also on 71 strokes.

The first round nett winner was Lucky Kubeka on 71 and Patrick Thomo took the second round nett with a score of 68.
