Am I destroying the world?

"Stop fighting over who created the world and fight against the people who are destroying it!"

Social media and modern technology have become the modern way of communication.
It has replaced the old telegram and is fast replacing the ordinary letter or mail as many people know it.

Like anything else mankind discovers or gets hold of, it can be a good thing if used in a proper way or it can also be a bad thing if it is misused.

I must admit that a lot of the posts that appear on Facebook, for instance, are “nice-to-knows”, but do not really impact on society as a whole nor are they able to change the world overnight.

A post I saw recently, however, got me thinking.
With the centuries-old debate between various religious, scientifically orientated groups and others about who or how the world was created, the post read: “Stop fighting over who created the world and fight against the people who are destroying it!”

At this point I must hasten to add I am of the Christian faith and I believe accordingly.

The point is that whatever our beliefs are, we all live on this planet.
We all have a duty therefore to care for our environment, Nature and our fellow human beings, otherwise we will all have played a role in destroying the world, regardless of our beliefs.

That one little piece of paper thrown out of the car window makes it easier next time to discard a paper packet or an empty fast food container, then we think nothing of dumping our household trash, building rubble or garden refuse in an open field or even on street corners.

We leave picnic spots in a mess by discarding empty bottles, fast food containers and half-eaten food for “others” to clean up after us.

Wind and rain carries this junk to rivers and streams that become filthy and clogged, resulting in the aquatic life dying off and eventually disappearing altogether.

We flush anything down the toilet with an attitude of “if the drain gets blocked it’s their problem! They must come and unblock it”.

As we have all come to experience all too often lately, “they” are either too slow in reacting to problems, or there is no reaction at all. So let it all begin with us as individuals.

Let us stop bickering over who is wrong and who is right and make the world a better place for all.
