Ligbron unveils new consumer study centre

The event, organised by Ligbron's governing body with Zenta Wentzel at the helm, was a grand opening in the true sense of the word.

ERMELO – Celebratory fires burnt high on July 18 with the opening of Le Blue, Ligbron Academy of Technology’s new and modern consumer study centre and events venue.

The event, organised by Ligbron’s governing body with Zenta Wentzel at the helm, was a grand opening in the true sense of the word.

The 90 guests were spoilt with the culinary genius of Ermelo’s star chef, Jakes Warricker, and his team.

His menu offered a variety of delectable dishes, such as springbok carpaccio served with parmesan roasted beef marrow, a balsamic glaze, parmesan and Argentinian chimichurri as one of the choices for a starter.

The main course offered, among others, a 500g mature Sparta beef rib-eye on the bone steak and beef bone marrow.

These dishes were served with sides, salsa verde, Mexican couscous, and Mediterranean roast vegetables. For dessert, guests enjoyed the chef’s table tasting plate.

The decor was done by Carina Maree, who is well known for her excellent style and finesse.

The table wine was sponsored by Carlo and Sonet Engelbrecht.

Jolandi Terblanche and Andrew Roos entertained the guests with beautiful music and later during the evening, Carlo and Sonet Engelbrecht, and Henk and Talana Moller were the auctioneers of a very successful wine auction.

From the school’s side, Rialette de Villiers, Antonette van den Berg and Janette van Zyl assisted with all organisational matters.

The top 10 Grade 12 consumer study learners had the privilege to help with the preparation of the food under Warricker’s supervision, and four Grade 11 learners helped with the serving of the food.

The school’s technical department manufactured the furniture for the events venue.

The centre, a project that was spearheaded by the school’s governing body, has been under development for the past three years.

“Ligbron is privileged to have a school community that contributed not only financially, but also through their services, to make this vision a reality,” Gerhard Brand, the school principal, said.
