Ermelo teen turns Highvelder headlines into high fashion

By showcasing her design, Sharon highlighted the significance of eco-conscious fashion, demonstrating that creativity can go hand in hand with sustainability.

ERMELO – At the age of 16, Sharon Mlipha, a learner of Netherland Park Secondary School, pushed the boundaries of fashion by designing a stunning dress crafted from Highvelder’s newspapers.

“In a world where fashion often contributes to waste and environmental harm, I decided to challenge that by using recyclable materials and transforming it into something beautiful,” Sharon said.

Using newspapers and a bit of imagination, she turned a weekly printed Highvelder into a stunning dress to compete in the Mr and Miss Msukaligwa Forever 2024.

Sharon wanted to highlight the importance of sustainability and creativity in the fashion industry and showed that fashion does not have to come at the cost of our planet.
