VIDEO – Msukaligwa Local Municipality demolishes illegal street vendors in Ermelo

Questions were raised after some of the vendors who have permits to operate their business have also been removed by the municipality.

ERMELO – Msukaligwa Local Municipality demolished illegal street vendors in De Jager Street on September 10.

According to one of the women who had a hairdresser stand, they received notice from the municipality but were not informed of the date they must out of the stands.

Municipal workers arrived at the scene with a backactor to demolish the illegal structures.

“I asked the workers if I can have someone help me to take down the shack I was working in, but they refused and demolished it,” she told the newspaper.

Highvelder received information of a concerned family of one of the people whose business was demolished and who raised their frustrations regarding this situation.

According to him his cousin had a permit to operate her business there.

“What amazes me is that there are still stalls there, without a permit to operate,” the family member said.

Highvelder briefly spoke to Mandla Zwane, spokesperson for Msukaligwa Local Municipality, who confirmed the municipality removed these illegal structures.

The newspaper sent further enquiries to Zwane, and awaits response.
