VIDEO: Major pipe leak causes ponds on Amersfoort road farm

Despite numerous reports to the municipality, this issue has reportedly been ongoing for years, with no solution in sight.

Highvelder and some members of the Patriotic Alliance were invited to a farm out on the Amersfoort road this morning, August 29, where for nearly two years now a major water pipe has reportedly been constantly leaking, transforming parts of the land into a series of stagnant ponds.

This ongoing issue has left the landowner, who wished to remain anonymous, grappling with what he termed the consequences of a lack of service delivery from Msukaligwa Local Municipality.

In the veld, thousands of liters of water was seen to be going to waste.

Despite numerous reports to and pleas for intervention from the municipality, the leaking pipe caused about three ponds to be formed on the farm, making it impossible for the farmer to utilise parts of his land.

Near the ponds, blue pieces of pipe were left in the field where municipal workers had previously attempted to do repairs.

As the situation drags on, the farmer’s concerns about the effectiveness and responsiveness of municipal services are growing by the day.

Now as residents are warned about level 2 water restrictions, questions were raised about the effect this leaking pipe has on the town’s water supply.

Highvelder sent media enquiries to Mandla Zwane, Msukaligwa Local Municipality’s spokesperson, and awaits his response.
