A free Pap smear campaign was hosted at Dr Ferdousi Kabir’s Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Practice in Cassim Park, Ermelo, on July 27.
In honour of Kabir’s late mentor, Sorruyya Bhyat, 25 women received free Pap smears.
This initiative underscores the importance of early detection in preventing cervical cancer.
A Pap smear is a crucial test for detecting abnormal cervical cells, which can prevent cervical cancer if addressed early.
Kabir emphasised that one in 42 women is diagnosed with cervical cancer, often at advanced stages due to infrequent screenings.
“Regular Pap smears are essential for early detection,” she said.
“No one should die in 2024 due to cervical cancer, as a quick examination once a year can save your life.”
Kabir urged all women to prioritise their health and schedule regular screenings.
